Imara Heritage was created between Kenya and Denmark with a simple vision:

to build a bridge between Africa and Scandinavia through storytelling, culture, and craftsmanship.

What began with a love for East African traditions and design grew into a deeper mission —

to share the heritage beauty, and artistry, often overlooked outside the continent.

Our story begins in Nairobi, in a small room full of colorful fabrics, a couple of sowing machines, and a handful of very skilled tailors.

We were set on bringing the newest piece of Kenyan fashion to scandinavia, the backless dera!

Together with the tailors we went through several types of fabrics, colors and designs.

This quickly evolved into a passion for the stories of the skilled artisans behind the products, the curiosity of how these skills are learned and handed down through generations.

Every piece on our website is chosen with intention — carrying a story of heritage, identity, and craftsmanship.

Our goal is not only to tell stories of people, culture, and offer carefully selected products from Africa, but to create connection:

between cultures, between people, and between tradition and modern living.

Imara means strength.

And for us, Imara Heritage represents the strength found in culture, community, tradition, and the people who keep those traditions alive.

Welcome to Imara Heritage.

Where culture lives on.
